Marie Yan (*1990 in Paris, France) is a multilingual writer and dramaturge for theatre and dance. She studied literature and dramaturgy at the University of Paris 4 - Sorbonne and at the University of Glasgow (UK). Her first play The Fog won the Mary Leishman Theatre Award in 2015, after which her work has been staged in Scotland ( A Quick Decision Can Be Made, 2015), Germany (Artes Moriendi, 2019) and Turkey (I need to cross, nominated for the 2021 Kamari Prize). She is interested in figures of evil, unstable identities and dys/utopian motifs. For A Tidal Home, a hybrid, quadrilingual, collective play and book project about her return to Hong Kong, the political and emotional changes taking place in the city, she was awarded the Crossing Borders Scholarship and the New Earth Theatre Seed Commission (UK) in 2020. Two plays are planned to have their European premieres in 2022: A Tidal Home in Berlin and La Théorie in Paris. As a dramaturg, she regularly works with the dance collective Grupo Oito and the FRATZ International Festival Symposium with a focus on postcolonial and intersectional perspectives.
